Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how RentIncome ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores, and shares your information when you use our Android application and related services (collectively, the "Service"). RentIncome is operated from India and complies with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act").
1. Information we collect
a. Information you provide
- Account information: phone number, name, and (optionally) email address when you create an account.
- Rental records: property names, unit details, tenant names, contact numbers, rent amounts, deposits, payments, expenses, and any notes you choose to add. You provide this data; we do not source it from anywhere else.
- Communications: support requests, feedback, and any correspondence you send us.
b. Information collected automatically
- Device and log data: app version, OS version, language, crash reports, and basic usage events to keep the Service stable.
- Cookies and local storage: the app stores your session and a local copy of your data on your device for offline access.
c. Information we do not collect
- We do not collect precise location, contacts, photos, microphone, camera, or SMS unless you explicitly grant permission for a feature that needs it (e.g., uploading a property photo).
- The current closed-testing build operates entirely on your device — no rental data is sent to our servers in this build.
2. How we use your information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Service (e.g., showing your tenants and ledgers, calculating dues, sending reminders you initiate).
- To respond to support requests and communicate service updates.
- To detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, or unauthorised access.
- To comply with applicable Indian law.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data to train machine-learning models. We do not run third-party advertising trackers.
3. Sharing of information
We share information only in these limited situations:
- Service providers who help us run the Service (cloud hosting, error monitoring) under contract and only to the extent needed.
- Legal requirements: if required by Indian law, court order, or government request.
- Business transfer: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you.
- With your consent for any other purpose.
4. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., tax records).
5. Your rights under the DPDP Act
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Request deletion ("erasure") of your account and data.
- Withdraw consent for any processing based on your consent.
- Nominate another individual to exercise these rights on your behalf in case of incapacity or death.
- Lodge a grievance with our Data Protection Officer (see Contact).
6. Account and data deletion
You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time:
- From within the app: Settings → Account → Delete account.
- By email: write to support@rentincome.in from the email address linked to your account, subject line "Delete my account".
Deletion is permanent. We will confirm completion within 30 days.
7. Security
We use industry-standard practices: TLS for data in transit, encryption at rest for sensitive fields, access controls, and audit logging. No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong, unique password and report suspected misuse to support@rentincome.in.
8. Children
RentIncome is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. International users
The Service is operated from India. If you access it from outside India, you understand that your information will be processed in India under Indian law.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the app or by email at least 7 days before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision.
